Progressives sell out
On Memorial Day I decided to keep my business—Summer Delights—closed for the day. I was surprised to find that my decision displeased one of my patrons so much that he came in and yelled at me. Therefore, I’d like to publicly set the record straight about what Memorial Day means to me.
A long time ago a group of men got together to create a U. S. of America: they put their hearts into it and did a good job. But one thing that would be and shall ever be is a group of men and women who would always stand between the people of the USA and any group trying to change our lifestyle.
Many of these men and women—with purity in their hearts and courage, too—joined the military with generally one goal: to keep the U.S. way of life strong and on a daily track. Some people forget in our country that service people do not start conflict. That deed usually comes from Congress where the actions ceated by them will not be seen or heard of directly.
Manufacturers of arms will get rich, and some in Congress will beat their chests to show their bravado. But it is your brother, sister, or other relative who will be the one in direct conflict to die, be injured, or see others die before their eyes. But the soldiers are told to “suck it in” or suck it up,” and carry on. Only those who dare to wear a uniform know the commitment involved with going into harm’s way.
Of course, nothing in the military can be fault free or without problems. But it can never be denied that one thing is true: they dare to die for America and do so because it is their wish to honor those before them and set a path for those who follow.
So, why on Memorial Day should any proud American be faulted for honoring those who have died is service as he or she sees fit? Why does someone have to explain why his or her business is closed in the name of that honor? I am confused and perplexed why I should be criticized for closing my business by someone who does not find it “convenient” for me to do so.
