Dear Readers,
To Your Gilbert’s bitter disappointment, Roger Schlegel says his candidacy is not a hoax or spoof, as we speculated, but a serious effort to become Takoma Park’s next mayor.
His website is now active:

Dear Gilbert. Seriously, I can’t imagine why you’d be bitterly disappointed that someone wants to become mayor. You might not think much of the ideas you reported in your earlier blog article, but in my opinion, there’s a big, unjustified leap from that attitude to being disappointed that the guy is running.

  2. Seth, true, that’s too big a leap – too wide indeed for the ancient, bowed legs of Your Gilbert. And that’s not a leap we intended to make.
We hasten to clarify that we are disappointed ONLY that there was no spoof. We were looking forward to seeing a local Pat Paulsen-type campaign (
We are NOT disappointed that Roger or anyone else is running a serious campaign.
    Let the games begin.

  3. By the look of his website, Schlegel appears quite serious! In my views, he is a little too flattering toward current and past City administrations (TP as a leader in environment? This bromide has been repeated by Porter and Williams when in fact this alleged “leadership” is now only long past laurels). But maybe we will know a lot more specifics as to how he differentiates himself from Williams in the coming weeks.
In ant case, it should prod Williams to get out of his usual M.O., to have to defend his record and make proposals about the future that someone will hold him to.
So go for it, Roger, and good luck waking up Brigadoon!

  4. VIVA ROGER!!!
