Area residents have been waiting for their summer fix of syncopated, mind-blowing, body-possessing rhythm. On June 5 the Takoma JazzFest delivered.
The Sunday festival, entirely volunteer-run, featured 12 acts on two stages. It kicked off with James Webb performing his original music and 17-year-old Matt Wiggler on piano; Latin Grammy winner AfroBop Alliance and Groove Jet’s rock-jazz fusion carried the concert through the afternoon; and Charlie Byrd Tribute and the Tim Andrulonis Quartet – winner of the 2011 JazzFest brawl – closed the shows. Visitors also enjoyed the dozens of arts, crafts and food vendors set up along Carroll Avenue.
