ANNOUNCEMENT: Giving Thanksgiving

The seasons are changing and Thanksgiving is approaching. The current economic conditions have made things especially tough on many area residents, who find it difficult to keep food on their tables. Coincidentally, reductions in government funding mean that local food banks have fewer resources with which to assist families.

A Montgomery County-wide program coordinated by A Wider Circle is working to address this need. Adventist Community Services has responsibility for serving all those in need in the Takoma Park area, with help from the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Food Co-op, Fabrangen Cheder Community and School, the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church, the Steve Francis Foundation, other local faith-based organizations, local businesses and neighbors.

In 2010, the local coalition provided Thanksgiving food packages, including turkeys, to 1,000 families. This year, they expect a much greater need. Due to the increase, we are asking for monetary donations from the community. Bulk discounts on food items purchased by the Adventist Community Services food bank means your donation dollars go a long way. For just $100, we can help four families enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. Our goal is to raise $20,000 so that no Takoma Park/Silver Spring family goes hungry on Thanksgiving Day.
