Winter Garden Prep Talk:
Kathy Jentz, Editor/Publisher, Washington Gardener Magazine will walk you through “Putting Your Garden to Bed for Winter” from protecting marginally hardy plants to getting your amaryllis to bloom for the holidays to what you should/should not prune right now, you’ll learn how to get the most out of mosquito-free, cool gardening days and how to get a head start on next spring’s growing season. If time allows, Kathy will also cover some “Local Gardening Challenges” we all struggle with from deer to drainage issues and how best to meet those obstacles.

Bulb Sale:
These are premium, high quality, large Dutch bulbs that should be planted this fall for gorgeous flowers next spring. We are offering a 20% discount off the Takoma Street Fair prices so these bulbs can go to a good home and get into the ground asap.
There are many species (naturalizing) tulips left as well as many minor bulbs.
The Bulb Sale will take place before and after the talk (approx. 7:00-7:30pm and 9:00-9:30pm).
Exact change and checks only.
Most bulb packs are $4 or $5 each.

Guide to Smithsonian Gardens is the first guide to the gardens around the museums on the Mall. Taken together, these various gardens constitute a botanic garden on the Mall. The book necessarily recounts the history of the Smithsonian and the gradual creation of each garden. Each one furthers the mission of the museum it enhances.

Author and speaker Carole Ottesen is a gardener who began writing about gardens to support her plant habit. “For thirty years, I wrote garden columns, articles, and books about plants and gardens,” says Carole. “Recently, my interests have turned to crime, especially murder in the garden.” Her new book is Dying for the Christmas Rose.

WHEN: Monday, November 19
Doors open at 7:30pm
Talk starts at 8:00pm

WHERE: Brookside Gardens Visitors Center
1800 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton, Maryland
