PHOTOS: Imprisoned bodies, free minds

Deante Harden, Free Minds Poet Ambassador

Free Minds Ambassador Poets were on hand to read their poems at the Free Minds Book Club “Write Night,” Wednesday, February 19th at the Seekers Church on Carroll Avenue, NW, in Takoma, DC.   Close to 40 volunteers then read poems written by youth who are still behind bars, and wrote messages of encouragement.  The group’s mission is to “introduce young inmates to the transformative power of books and creative writing.”  Free Minds also provides critical support services to released prisoners, helping them to set and achieve new educational and career goals.

Voice photographer Stephen Bobb was there to create this photo essay.
