PHOTOS: Old Takoma traffic disruption as 6 – 7″ of snow falls

A downed utility pole at the corner of Eastern and Willow Avenues draped power lines across the usually busy intersection of Eastern and Carroll Avenues in Takoma DC on the Takoma Park, Maryland border around 11:30 am. Traffic lights were disabled. Police said the pole was struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders stopped traffic on all streets leading to the intersection.

There wasn’t much automobile traffic due to the day’s snow storm, but public buses were backed up on the Maryland side of Carroll Avenue.

The street was cleared and power restored later in the day as snow continued to fall. The total accumulation was around 6 -7″. Our photographer noted there weren’t many people out to enjoy the last big storm of the season. “I guess they’re over it,” she said.
