Man shot, woman stabbed this week

Takoma Park police reported an early morning shooting in Takoma Park Friday, July 10. Around 1:30 am, city police responded to the Econo Lodge on New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park, Maryland, for reports of shots fired.

According to the police report officersk found a large crowd in the area.  Shortly after, a local hospital advised police that a gun shot victim had walked himself into the hospital. He had been shot at the Econo Lodge. The victim is is reported to be a male in his 20’s from Hyattsville, Maryland. He reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries.  Police canvassed the area and spoke with numerous witnesses.

Police say this is is an active investigation.  More information will be released as the investigation continues.

Earlier this week, police stopped an assault by a woman wielding a broken glass bottle. Karen Anderson, 46, of Takoma Park, MD was arrested for 1st and 2nd Degree Assault. The incident occurred at an apartment complex on the 700 block of Ethan Allen Ave., Takoma Park, MD.

Anderson allegedly entered a woman’s apartment without approval. When asked to leave, the police said, a physical altercation ensued outside.

Police report that Anderson picked up a glass bottle, smashed it on the ground and stabbed the other woman.  The woman used her arms as a shield and was stabbed twice causing two deep wounds.  Emergency Medical Technicians transported her to a to a local hospital with non-life threatening physical injuries.

Anderson was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County central processing unit.
