Alegre doesn’t stop at the bar

The local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community celebrates together weekly on Tuesdays at Republic from 5-7 p.m. at Alegre, the LGBT Happy Hour.

Organized 2 years ago by Randall Mason, Matt Lichvar, Daryl Galan and Ricardo Galan, this happy hour event is flourishing with food and drink specials as well as music, fun and laughter.

The name Alegre, imagined by Republic co-owner and Executive Chef Danny Wells, is quite fitting for this festive event. It is a Spanish adjective with the English translation being “happy,” “cheerful,” “lively” and even “tipspy.” Co-founder Daryl Galan states “This happy hour is a great way to meet new friends. There are no cliques here at Alegre happy hour.”

“Cherish” is the specialty cocktail available only on Alegre Tuesdays. Developed by Republic mixologists Ryan Munsey and Jake Rummel, this drink is inspired by vintage cocktail recipes and crafted with hand-infused cherry brandy, Luxardo maraschino cherry liqueur, various citrus juices and even a little gin in the mix. This classy drink is available for only five dollars during the Alegre happy hour.

Lining the wrought iron fencing inside Republic’s bar area hangs dozens of strands of multicolored beads for happy hour participants to wear and share. “It is the small attention to detail and the loving staff that makes Republic the perfect place to host such a fun filled weekly event.” says co-founder Galan. “Everyone is welcome!”

“We do not stop at the bar with this community. Since we created the LGBT happy hour, we have seen friendships flourish and have taken it outside the bar with trips to wineries, rollerskating, ice skating and many other group events. If there is a place to be for the LGBT, it is here (with me)!” exclaimed Galan with a smile.

In spring 2016 expect to see happy hour moving outdoors onto the warm air on the Republic patio area and possibly even some local live music to entertain the local LGBT community. Local musicians seeking to play original music at the Alegre happy hour can email
