Piney Branch Elementary School teachers, students, parents and the Takoma Park Public Works Department all pitched in to beautify their school at 7510 Maple Ave., Takoma Park, MD Saturday, April 23.

The city public works department delivered free mulch and wood chips, and is working on the removal of eight dead trees.

PBES third grade teacher Desiree Hernandez organized a group of volunteer students, parents and teachers to weed and plant garden spaces. The idea came from a meeting with the Student Government Association. Leah Ryan, parent of a fourth grader, and Hernandez planned the project together.
