PHOTOS: FOLK Fest success

The Takoma FOLK Fest was held Sept. 11 in lieu of the Takoma Park Folk Festival which was canceled this year due to lack of skilled volunteer organizers. FOLK Fest was organized in a few weeks by the Old Takoma Business Association in coordination with the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, the City of Takoma Park and the House of Musical Traditions.

It featured around 16 acts at the Takoma Park Gazebo through the day and the Takoma Park Community Center in the evening. There were games and pavement chalk for children and food vendors. The event was broadcast live on WOWD 94.3 FM Takoma Radio.

There will be a Folk Festival planning meeting Sept. 20, 7:30 p.m. at the Takoma Park Community Center, Azalea Room. If the festival is revived, next year will be its 40th anniversary.
