1) Tell us about yourself.
As a gay man with a disability from a racially diverse family, Justin Chappell knows words matter. Words are powerful. Justin also knows actions speak louder than words.
This election is about priorities, experience with real results, and real solutions to create opportunity for all. Justin’s priorities are based on 15 years of experience with real results working on economic, education, and environmental issues at the local, state, and federal level.
Justin fights for our most vulnerable citizens, bringing together experience serving as a civic association president, working for AFSCME MD and U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, owning a small business helping local non-profits, and currently serving as vice-chair of a national organization helping youth transition from school to work.
Justin believes experience matters, that issues are more than a bumper sticker.

Justin’s real plan includes investing in green jobs, affordable long-term care options for seniors, preventing eldercare abuse, affordable college and career training, living wages and family medical leave for all, school construction funding and fully funding public transit.

Every single day Justin Chappell works with low income families at a Silver Spring non-profit to help them develop step-by-step plans to achieve their goals. Justin reviews their resources and expenses, as well as tactics that have and have not been effective toward achieving their goal. 6) What is the top issue (or one of the top issues) facing the District and how do you propose to deal with it?
Our community needs responsible economic growth that also ends our reliance on dirty energy and unreliable utilities. 7) What are the top issues facing the Assembly and how do you propose to deal with it?
Justin Chappell’s mission is to end the revolving door of poverty and inequality, prioritizing the needs of our community’s most vulnerable citizens.
Justin is committed to passing a living wage indexed to inflation, paid sick and family medical leave for our workers, bringing District 20 our fair share of school construction money to reduce class size, expanding Medicaid eligibility for our seniors and people with disabilities, as well as giving ex-offenders a second chance to contribute to society.
Justin strongly believes the ability to earn a living wage is a civil rights/ economic justice issue which should keep pace with sound economic principles like increasing consumer prices. He also knows that more than 50% of bankruptcies are related to illness, and that access to education excellence is a key enabler for upward economic mobility.
